Harmony

It was a Sunday afternoon and the girls were still in their Sunday school cloths. They were playing on a couch outside their apartment while mom’s sheets were drying in the wind. I call this harmony because I love the harmony of the dresses and the sheets blowing in the warm florida breeze.
My art has a very shiny gloss glass like finish. To show the gloss in the photos some highlights and flares will show up on the art that is not part of the actual art.

Artist’s statement: This photograph was taken on a walking trail in Mastodon State Park in Imperial, Mo., the morning following a snowstorm.
Each viewer must interpret for themselves whether the steps lead up, or down.

The Tree With a Past
Posted in Uncategorized on November 3, 2010 by stegenartsThe American beech was part of a tradition for young men attending St. Vincent’s Seminary, which operated between the 1843 and 1910 in Cape Girardeau.
When young seminarians came there, they had to climb up the tree and put their initials in it.
The school operated as a college until 1979 and was subsequently closed. The buildings are now part of the River Campus. The tree, with a few initials still visible among the branches, is the centerpiece of the River Campus park.

Posted in Uncategorized on August 3, 2010 by stegenartsThis is The Grand Arbor at The Commandant’s House in Ste. Genevieve, now called the Jean Baptiste Valle House.
These grape vines came from France and were planted in it’s present location in the year 1793.
Tim Conley, a friend of mine, recently purchase the property and is restoring the the house, The Grand Arbor and a 18th-century rose garden. This is a private residential home but the The Grand Arbor can be seen from the sidewalk along the property.

I did this for Ali Cavanaugh, who is a fellow artist. You will notice that this is a very different color palette than my other pieces. I picked a color palette that was more like Ali’s own art. Ali is on the left. A painting of her daughter, who has been Ali’s inspiration, is on the right. Her son is above her and in the center, her religion is what gives her strength. Please go see Ali’s website to see her beautiful watercolor paintings. I have her link posted at right.

I love this piece. Fall leaves come out to play, then slowly disappear as winter appears. Sometimes we feel as though we are falling apart and can’t keep a handle on all the changes – good or bad – taking place around us.
There are many faces within the formation of the leaves.

This 3D piece is composed of images from 5 different cities from Florida & Missouri. Jackson M0., Cape G. Mo., Witenburgh, Ste Genevieve, Mo. and Fort Pierce Fl. I love this piece, it has a lot of memories in it. The bottom right is sliced in different angles reflecting curtains blowing in the wind. Top right, also sliced, has two different faces in it. My art work has a VERY high gloss to them so it makes it difficult to capture it in the camera to put on the web. I am including other close-up photos to view but please contact me if you would like other photos emailed to you to see.
Can be seen at the Spirits restaurant In Alton Il.

A beautiful fall day in Ste. Genevieve caused the reflections on these windows. I painted some highlights and added several REAL leaves from that tree into my art.

I love the colors in this one. The original photo was taken at St. Louis Botanical Garden’s Shaw Nature Reserve. I feel that this is a religious piece to me. I used oil paints under and on top of the epoxy, which gives the surface a shiny and mat look. I also have metallic pigments mixed into the surface.

The sides to this piece are about 2 inches wide. It can hang straight from the frame without any hanging device.

I love Ste. Genevieve in the fall. The downtown historic district has quiet streets and large old trees. This 3D piece was created straight from a photo I took. I added some paint to the surface, matalic pigment and a couple of REAL leaves from those trees in the photo. Like most all my work, the surface looks like glass.
